Insomnia

Nearly 1 in 3 adults in the world have experienced some level of insomnia.

Insomnia is a sleep disorder characterised by difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or experiencing non-restorative sleep, which can lead to daytime impairment and distress. Insomnia can be acute (short-term) or chronic (long-term), and it can have various causes such as stress, anxiety, medical conditions, medications, or poor sleep habits.

CBH techniques can be used to address primary insomnia by focusing on changing negative thought patterns and behaviours that contribute to sleep problems, while incorporating relaxation and suggestion techniques to promote better sleep. Education around sleep hygiene, and behaviours that promote healthy sleep, and stimulus control to start associating the bed with sleep and not wakefulness.
